Stop Spinning Your Wheels
Most productive people still find themselves in reactive mode— jumping from email to email, meeting to meeting, and struggling to make time for the critical questions that truly move the needle.
If you've listened to Tim Ferriss or Andrew Huberman, you know how crucial daily reflection is. Yet many apps just remind you to "journal" without giving you a clear method to focus on your toughest challenges.
MIQ Journal was built to solve this exact gap.
What's Your Most Important Question (MIQ) today?
Your Most Important Question (MIQ) is exactly that — the single most critical question you're wrestling with in your work or life right now.
At the end of each day, you identify this one question, deliberately harnessing the principle of scarcity in your thinking. Instead of trying to solve everything, you focus on what truly matters most.
You pose this question to your unconscious mind before sleep, then capture fresh insights in the morning — before social media, Slack, or emails cloud your thinking.
"The MIQ process is the most potent way I've found to train thinkers in the art of discovering what matters most."
"Great performers look at less, but they look in the most potent directions. Everyone else gets lost in a sea of complexity."
"Where am I being fueled by fear rather than love or curiosity in my work?"
What's Next?
1. Take a break from the screen and let your mind process this question.
2. Come back tomorrow at or after 6:00 AM to journal your insights and answer.
3. Your fresh perspective in the morning will help you see things differently.
📅 Mark your calendar: Your journaling window opens tomorrow at 6:00 AM and remains open for 72 hours.
Examples of Most Important Questions
"What are the most important dimensions to consider to properly segment our potential customers?"
— Product Manager
"What long-term trend am I feeling the early ripples of that others haven't noticed?"
— Investor
"What important decisions or conversations am I subtly avoiding and why?"
— Startup Founder

Where am I being fueled by fear rather than love or curiosity in my work?
I've been approaching planning our product roadmap from a place of fear. Zooming out, I've been pushing the team for quick wins and features that bring us to par with competitors instead of starting from the needs of the customers that we are trying to serve and working backward. I've veered from our product strategy because of FOMO.
The good news is it's not too late. We can still return to our customer-centric roots. I'll share my thoughts with the team and challenge us all to think about the core problems our segment is facing and how we can creatively solve them in a way that differentiates us, rather than just chasing trends for the sake of it.
Get more by focusing on less
Great performers look at less, but they look in the most potent directions. Everyone else gets lost in a sea of complexity.
The Problem of Abundance
In today's world, we're overwhelmed with:
- Endless notifications
- Too many priorities competing for attention
- Information overload
- Constant digital distractions
The Power of One Question
MIQ Journal forces beneficial constraints:
- Identify the single most important question
- Create clarity through limitation
- Focus your mental energy where it matters most
- Eliminate the noise of secondary concerns
"One of the ways that I have trained at harnessing the principle of scarcity in the creative process is forcing yourself to think about what the most important question is in what you're working on."
- Josh Waitzkin

## Questions
Your questions this week have centered around two primary themes: product strategy alignment and authentic motivation. Most notably, your question "Where am I being fueled by fear rather than love or curiosity in my work?" reveals a growing awareness of how emotional drivers affect decision-making.
Your earlier questions focused on tactical product decisions, but evolved toward more fundamental inquiries about motivations and team alignment. This progression suggests you're connecting daily decisions to deeper values and purpose.
Blind spots include specific metrics for measuring customer-centricity and concrete alternatives to competitor-focused planning. While you've identified the problem of fear-based decision making, you haven't yet defined what love or curiosity-driven product development specifically looks like in practice.
## Answers
Your reflection on fear-driven product planning is particularly insightful. You candidly acknowledged pushing for "quick wins and features that bring us to par with competitors instead of starting from the needs of the customers." This self-awareness about how FOMO has driven you away from your product strategy is a significant breakthrough.
I notice your answers consistently return to customer-centricity as a core value. Your commitment to "return to our customer-centric roots" and "think about the core problems our segment is facing" indicates you're realigning with intrinsic motivations rather than external pressures.
The solutions you propose focus on collaboration—sharing thoughts with the team and collectively finding differentiated approaches. This suggests you see the path forward as communal rather than individual.
## Gap Analysis
There's a meaningful shift in your thinking about product leadership. You began the week concerned with feature parity and competitive positioning but evolved toward questioning the fundamental emotional drivers behind these priorities.
The tension between fear-based and customer-centric product development represents your core growth opportunity. Your recent reflections show you're becoming more aware of how fear influences not just your decisions but team dynamics and product outcomes.
While you've recognized the issue of fear-based decision making, your answers don't yet detail specific processes or frameworks to ensure you stay anchored in customer needs rather than competitive anxiety.
## Suggestions
Develop a practical framework for customer-centric decision making: "What three questions could we ask in every product meeting to ensure we're starting with customer needs rather than competitive fears?"
Explore how fear manifests in team dynamics: "How does my fear-driven planning affect the creativity and psychological safety of my team members?"
Define what curiosity-driven product development looks like: "What would our next sprint planning look like if it was completely driven by curiosity about our users rather than fear of competition?"
Create accountability for your shift: "What specific metrics could we track to measure whether we're truly solving core customer problems versus just matching competitor features?"
